ACT for living with what is here now
If fighting with your thoughts and feelings is wearing you out, I use ACT to help us make room for them differently. We can stay connected to what matters without pretending the hard parts are not there.

How I use it
Kristy Rosendorf, LMHC
I use ACT to help people notice the difference between what hurts and what gets in the way of living. That often means making room for uncomfortable thoughts or feelings while shifting attention toward values and actions that matter in daily life. For some people, this work is about stress or self-doubt; for others, it connects to trauma, relationships, or recovery. I keep it practical and personal, not abstract.
We do not have to wait for discomfort to disappear before we start.
Who it tends to suit
People often come in feeling caught between discomfort and avoidance. They may spend a lot of energy trying not to think, feel, or notice certain things, only to find those same things still running the day. The struggle can show up in decisions, relationships, stress, or self-doubt. Often the person already knows the old way of coping is expensive, but is not sure what else to do.
- I keep putting off the things that matter to me.
- I get stuck trying to get rid of thoughts I hate.
- I feel pulled away from the life I want by my own reactions.
- I am tired of spending so much energy avoiding discomfort.
What the first sessions look like
The first sessions are about what feels stuck and what matters to you underneath that stuckness. I will ask about the situations where avoidance shows up, what you have been trying, and what you want more room for, and you do not need to have a polished answer.

Questions people ask
Is ACT about accepting everything and doing nothing?
No. It is about making room for what is hard so you can look more clearly at what matters next.
What if I am tired of fighting my thoughts?
That is often exactly where this work begins. We can look at how the struggle itself is taking up space.
Can ACT help with values and direction?
Yes, that is a central part of the work. We pay attention to what matters to you alongside what feels difficult.
Do we have to talk about everything from the past?
Not necessarily. We can work with what is showing up now and what keeps pulling you off course.
