Trauma & PTSD therapy when the past still feels close
If what happened still shapes how you move through the day, I offer a place to talk about it carefully. You do not need to tell everything at once or have the story perfectly organized.
What people bring me
People often come in feeling on edge, shut down, or pulled back into old moments when they least expect it. Sleep, focus, relationships, and ordinary routines can all start to feel harder. Some people know exactly what happened; others just know their body and mood do not feel like their own. It can feel exhausting to keep getting hijacked by memories, reactions, or a sense that danger is still nearby.
- I keep reliving things I wish I could move past.
- My body reacts before I even understand why.
- I feel numb, jumpy, or stuck on alert.
- I never feel fully safe, even when nothing is happening.
We can go at the pace your nervous system can actually tolerate.
How I work with it
I pay attention to both the story and the way trauma lives in the present. That may mean slowing down, noticing triggers, and making room for what your body and emotions are doing in session. For some people, the work is mostly individual; for others, it also means looking at how trauma has shaped closeness, trust, or recovery. I draw from several approaches rather than forcing one way of working.
- CBT
- We look at the thoughts and habits that get set in motion after trauma. The work can help us notice what keeps fear, avoidance, or self-blame in place.
- ACT
- ACT can make room for painful feelings without letting them run the whole day. We focus on what matters to you now, even when old reactions show up.
- Psychodynamic Therapy
- This can help us notice how earlier experiences still shape expectations, relationships, and the meanings you make now. We pay attention to patterns that repeat outside the room and between us.
What the first sessions look like
The first sessions are about understanding what has been happening and what feels most pressing right now. I will ask about what you are noticing, what helps even a little, and what makes things harder, and you do not have to tell every detail to begin.

Questions people ask
Do I have to tell the whole story right away?
No. We can begin with what feels most present and build from there.
What if I get overwhelmed talking about it?
That is something we can watch for together. I pay attention to pace and to what helps you stay grounded in the room.
Is help with trauma only for one big event?
Not at all. Trauma can come from one event or from many experiences that wore you down over time.
What does help with trauma usually focus on?
We usually start with what is interfering most right now. From there, we can look at reactions, patterns, and what support feels workable.
